Privacy
Distractory has no accounts, advertising scripts or analytics trackers. I do not assign tracking identifiers or store IP addresses in Distractory’s database.
What is stored
A YES/NO vote stores only the site, category, answer and date. A corner-poll vote stores the poll, answer and date. These anonymous answers help order recommendations and show poll results. They are not linked to a person or browser.
A suggestion stores the URL, your optional note, its date and review status. A report stores the site, reason, optional note, date and review status. Neither has a visitor identifier. Please do not include personal or sensitive information: anything you type into a note is included in that submission. Suggestions and reports are deleted 12 months after they are marked reviewed.
What stays on your device
Local storage remembers which questions you have answered to discourage duplicate votes. That record stays in your browser and is never sent to the server. Session storage remembers the last site you opened and whether a feedback prompt was offered. Clearing browser storage resets these local records.
Distractory does not create an identifier cookie. If your browser still has one from an earlier staging version, it is deleted when your browser next calls the site’s API.
Hosting and other websites
Cloudflare hosts and protects Distractory. It processes connection information, including IP addresses, to deliver pages and limit abusive requests. Distractory does not save those addresses in its application database or application logs. Cloudflare’s own infrastructure and security processing are separate from the anonymous records described above.
External websites have their own privacy practices. Opening one leaves Distractory.
